Work From Home New England

Covid-19 has taught us a lot this year, including how well many of us are able to adapt to a remote working environment. While many companies and employees believed working from home would be a temporary arrangement early on in the pandemic, it's becoming more and more clear that the virus has simply accelerated the inevitable shift to remote work. You can argue that working from home has benefits and disadvantages; however, many people, including our real estate agents, believe it is here to stay. Below are several reasons why.

  1. Companies Have Been Forced to Adapt
Covid-19 hit us with little time to prepare, so early on, many companies weren't ready to handle the challenges associated with a remote workforce. However, after having the better part of a year to adjust, many businesses and workers have gotten quite good at maintaining productivity outside of the office. This "trial period" has helped to provide employers with confidence that their employees can execute their day-to-day work without having to be physically located in the same place.

  2. Remote Work Reduces Overhead
Companies are realizing remote work can actually mean big savings on everything from utility bills to office supplies. Many businesses are also starting to realize that their expensive downtown office space isn't necessary and that they're able to downsize, end their leases, or sell the property.

  3. Remote Work Expands The Talent Pool
By offering remote work options, companies are in a much better position to source open rolls from a much larger talent pool. Now that companies don't have to find candidates within their geographic footprint, it's much easier to find and attract the best of the best when it comes to filling open roles. By the same token, many businesses may need to offer remote work in order to attract top candidates in the future.

  4. Employees Will Expect it
A substantial number of employees have been asking to work from home for years. In fact, many surveys have indicated that a large percentage of employees would be willing to take a pay cut to continue remote work. After the pandemic has passed, employees are likely to push for continued remote working arrangements.

  5. Zoom Towns are Becoming Increasingly Popular
Now that many employees are no longer location-dependent, more and more people are flocking to vacation locations at the beach or in the mountains. New England is also home to many beautiful "zoom towns" with peaceful landscapes, fantastic cuisine, and fun outdoor activities. The longer employees work from home, the more likely they are to move their homes to a place they enjoy. After the pandemic has passed, these employees may be more likely to seek employment with companies that allow them to maintain location independence.

The best thing about remote work is it gives you the opportunity to reconsider your home's location. For more tips on how to make the most of your remote work location, contact us today.
