Hobbies at Home

The New Year is almost upon us! That means now is a great time to start thinking about what 2021 might look like and setting some new goals. Since most of us are still spending the majority of our time at home, starting a new hobby is a great way to kick 2021.

Many of our real estate agents have already found some fun and interesting ways to occupy themselves during their free time. Here are a few of the hobbies they recommend.

  1. Painting
Do you have an artistic streak? Try learning how to paint! From watercolors to oil, there are many different methods you can explore. Learning how to paint might feel intimidating at first, but once you learn the basics, you can let your creative juices flow. Pick up some basic supplies online or at your local art store. Then start watching YouTube videos or read through a couple of beginner's instruction books.

  2. Photography
If you are interested in photography, don't make the mistake of thinking you have to invest thousands of dollars to get started. You can take some pretty incredible photos with your mobile phone. This is also a great way to get out of the house while still staying socially distant. Start by reading your phone's manual and looking for some online tutorials, then head out and start experimenting!

  3. Candle and Soap Making
Take your crafting to a whole new level by learning how to make artisan soaps and candles. This is a fun hobby with plenty of variables to keep you interested. Even better, you can enjoy your final products, give them to family and friends, or even sell them online!

  4. Cooking
When the COVID-19 shutdowns began, many people started refining their cooking skills. This is a fun hobby that you can enjoy for the rest of your life. Try exploring different cooking techniques on YouTube or by browsing Pinterest, where you'll find thousands of recipes. Want to keep things simple? Join a meal delivery service! They'll send you simple recipes and all the ingredients you need to create delicious meals. Best of all, you won't have to leave your house.

  5. Blogging
Do you enjoy writing? Why not start a blog? It's relatively inexpensive to set up, and this is a project that can actually pay off. If you start a profitable blog, you might find that you have more time and money to enjoy some of the other hobbies on this list.

  6. Caring for Plants
Collecting and caring for houseplants has also become much more popular since the shutdowns began. Not only is this a fun and rewarding project, but houseplants will also make your house look more "homey." As an added benefit, some varieties have excellent air-purifying qualities. If you're not familiar with caring for plants, start with some hardy varieties that are relatively easy to take care of. Once you read up on their requirements, you'll find that it's pretty easy. There are also many fun and active plant groups on Facebook that are incredibly helpful to the novice plant-parent.

Are you thinking about spending some of your free time house-hunting next year? While this is a fun hobby, if you really want to find your dream home, you'll want to turn to the pros. Contact us today to discuss your goals and learn how we can help.
