- Maine State Museum - 230 State St., Augusta, ME 04330
The Maine State Museum has a history nearly as fascinating as the state it represents. In 2015, this saga was told in an article entitled, "The Museum That Would Not Die." While the museum was founded in 1836, the road to the present day has been rocky, with half-a-dozen closings and reopenings. Exhibits such as a working three-story mill and an 1846 steam locomotive spotlight the quintessential elements of Maine. The museum is temporarily closed for renovations, but a number of exhibits and collections can be enjoyed online. Membership levels range from $35-$500. While the museum is closed, members receive invitations to exclusive virtual and in-person events.

Memberships, which run from $20-$1,000 per year, include free admission along with a tiered assortment of benefits.
