Don't be fooled by the address. Cranmore Mountain Resort is just as much fun during summer as it is during winter. The main attraction is Mountain Adventure Park, with rides such as the Mountain Coaster, a 2,390-foot thrill ride through the woods where you control the speed. Little ones love the bounce houses, climbing wall, and Spyder Mountain, a 30-foot inflatable slide. Road warriors can hit the family-friendly Cranmore Mountain Bike Park, with terrain suitable for all ages and skill levels. A seven-minute chairlift ride takes you to the summit for lunch at historic Meister Hut, or pack your own picnic basket. The park is open from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Admission is $39-$49.

While other resorts offer hiking and mountain biking, guests at Black Mountain explore the stunning landscape from the back of a horse. No experience is needed for these one-hour guided rides that proceed at a comfortable walking pace. For kids aged 9 and under, gentle ponies take them on a 10-minute ride around the base area. The resort also features traditional hiking trails if you want to continue viewing the countryside. Horseback riding and pony rides are available through mid-October by reservation only. Prices are $70 per person for group rides, $130 per person for private rides, and $25 for pony rides. Black Mountain is open daily from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

No matter what your age, you'll feel like a kid at Mount Sunapee, a giant playground for the whole family. Travel through the trees on the aerial challenge course, practice your bow and arrow skills on the archery course, and take part in some friendly competition with disc or miniature golf. Defy gravity at New England's largest aerial obstacle course, the signature attraction at Gunstock Mountain Resort. An incredible 90 challenges, including log ladders, footbridges, and seesaws, are sprinkled within the eight rope courses. Kids aged 6-11 can join the fun on the scaled-down Explorer Course. Get an extra jolt of adrenaline with a ride on the Mountain Coaster, with two-person carts that ride the rails around corners, down drops, and through 360° turns. On June 25-26, the resort hosts Gunstock TrailFest, featuring nine running races, on-site camping, BBQ, and live music.
